Laâssilat: A Collective Archive
Date
30.05 - 19.09.2021
Location
La Serre, Laâssilat, BouskouraArchive
This series of workshops was conducted with the children of Laâssilat, a village located on the outskirts of Casablanca in the region of Bouskoura.
Over the course of 3 months, we worked with the children of the village to build a photographic archive of the region and its transforming landscape.
In the past few years, a mass disappearance of the Opuntia Ficus Indica cactus has been observed in the region due to the invasion of the Cochineal insect. This plant used to be thriving in the area and represented an important ressource for its inhabitants.
The body of work that was developed through the workshops aimed to document the memory of this plant and the significance of its disappearance for the local community.
This project was conducted as part of the ‘Mémoire des plantes et des insectes‘ residency with the support of the Atelier de l’Observatoire.
